PhD

After six years of slog, I have just about finished a PhD in Art History. This explains the recent lack of musical output over the last year and a half while I've been concentrating on finishing of the thesis. The topic, (for those interested) is Victorian images of reverie. Some final revisions to make and binding to be done, followed by celebrations!

Label Deal?

An American label have offered a deal which is being looked into at the moment. Could be promising....

2008

Spring 2008
'The Lake has been successfully remixed. Also, two tracks of a three track EP have been completed. Work will be commencing soon on the third.

January 1st 2008 'The Lake' was done and dusted around summer...well perhaps done, but not quite dusted. Having lived with it for six months or so, the mix is not wholly satisfactory. This will be looked at soon.

A new track found its way into the discography. 'The Storm' was completed around November time.

Another project was begun in December 2007 with the idea of building on an earlier track, 'The Soldier' a.k.a. 'Sonnet V' which has not properly been released, but has been played to some close musical friends. The idea of the new project was to put together a triptych of three pieces which drew from war poetry. 'Sonnet V' a.k.a., 'The Soldier' is of course the poem by Rupert Brooke who fought in World War One. A second track is being worked on right now and will be finished soon. This is called 'On the Idle Hill of Summer', and is inspired by the poem of the same name by A.E. Housman. A final track will complete the triptych and will accompany the other two on a special EP. The music will be pretty melancholic of course, but also spiritual, and ethereal in substance.

Perhaps one of these tracks will go onto the next CD album along with a much tighter mixed version of 'The Lake'.

January 1st 2007

Done a fair bit of work on a track for the next EP. 'The Lake' is a 12 minute affair with a number of sections......so, the key difficulties are maintaining a unity, but also sustaining interest without there being too much chopping and changing! It aims to be epic in the same sense of All in the Golden Afternoon... a kind of journey, with its narrative, quiet sections and maestoso sections taking you places!

Changed the key of the introduction....and it's worked a treat.....and now I'm using some samples of church organ bass pedals......gorgeous!

STARTING NEW ALBUM

Work has started on the music to a new track 'Aurora' which will appear on the next album. I am looking for some poetry to use in the track.....ideally poetic accounts of the aurora borealis.....let me know if you know of any!
.....the general feel I'm going for with this track is 'sublime' in the late 18th century sense of the word....

Also, my myspace site is coming together well with some wonderfully supportive comments from some great people. Make a visit and introduce yourself, www.myspace.com/ianneal
